Application

I have spent the evening filling in a job application, hence the lack of a particularly interesting post.  Applications are hard, because selling myself is not something I’m good at – it feels rude, somehow, to go on about positives.  Which is, I admit, ridiculous.  It’s not quite done yet, and the closing date is tomorrow, so I’d better get back to setting out just how well I could be seen to fit the person specification.

Sounds like a good idea to set out how well you could be seen to fit the person specification. The advice I’ve heard which I think is good is to imagine you are the interviewer and ask yourself what their ideal candidate would be like. Then pick out the bits of your qualifications, experience and personal qualities which fit the picture!

I don’t know whether it is a good idea to try too hard to ‘sell yourself’ in the job application. If it was me I would write as if I was having a (very brief) friendly chat with the interviewer (who was my equal), someone I got on well with and who I was just having a frank discussion with about the job.
